Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

ELECTRIC SHOCK HAZARD

  • The AES Cabinet is a high-voltage, high-energy system. Only qualified personnel with proper training and PPE may work on it.

  • Discover Energy Systems assumes no responsibility for injuries or damage resulting from unauthorized access, improper PPE use, or deviation from documented procedures.

Failure to follow these instructions may result in death or serious injury.

Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory when working on or near the AES Cabinet system to ensure personnel safety and minimize the risk of injury or exposure to electrical, thermal, or chemical hazards.

All individuals performing installation, maintenance, service, or inspection of the AES Cabinet must be trained appropriately and wear PPE that meets applicable safety regulations and standards. Failure to do so may result in serious injury, property damage, or death.


Required PPE for Working with the AES Cabinet

Task Type

General Access

Safety glasses, gloves (cut-resistant), steel-toed shoes

Electrical Work (>50V DC)

Class 0 or higher insulated rubber gloves, leather protectors, arc-rated clothing (≥8 cal/cm²), face shield, hearing protection

Battery Service (energized)

Chemical-resistant gloves, face shield, safety goggles, apron

Commissioning / Testing

Full arc-rated PPE kit, including jacket, pants, gloves, balaclava, helmet with arc-rated face shield

Lifting / Transport

Steel-toed shoes, high-visibility vest, gloves

Minimum PPE Standards

All PPE used must comply with the following safety standards:

  • NFPA 70E – Electrical safety in the workplace

  • ASTM F1506 – Flame-resistant clothing

  • ANSI Z87.1 – Eye and face protection

  • OSHA 1910 Subpart I – Personal protective equipment

  • IEC 61482-2 / EN 61482 – Arc flash PPE


Jewelry and Conductive Items

Personnel must remove all conductive jewelry (rings, watches, necklaces, bracelets) before accessing or working on the system. These items pose a serious risk of short circuit and arc flash.


Responsibility and Compliance

It is the sole responsibility of the site owner, employer, or designated safety officer to ensure:

  • Personnel are properly trained on PPE selection and use.

  • Required PPE is provided, maintained, and worn.

  • All work on the AES Cabinet complies with applicable workplace safety regulations.
